A SWEDISH TRADITION INTHE HEARTLAND
LINDSBORG, KS
Celebrating and Honoring a Tradition
2025 Update:
It's time to get excited for this year’s Midsummer’s Festival. When our small committee set goals for the 2025 festival last fall, we all agreed that the Midsummer’s Festival is a special event and what we deemed most important was spending time with our community. That sense of community is something that many of us have seen in Sweden’s Midsummer Festivals as well. With that in mind, we decided to try something a little different to bring in that feeling.
We are highlighting some of the favorite traditions including the evening performances around the Midsummer pole, performances from the Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers (LSFD), Folkdanslag and the Scandinavian Folk Dancers of Kansas City, bloomkrons. As well as moving the barrel train and the LSFD Dala Van downtown, to pull the entire town into our celebration. I mean, is it really a Midsummer without a Viking on a Stick?
For our daytime activities we are working closely with the businesses downtown to form a partnership between them and some of the demonstrators/entertainers to bring the Midsummer's Festival to Main Street. There will also be pop-up performances from the above-mentioned dance groups throughout the day. We encourage the restaurants downtown to get involved as well, plus we will have a couple of food vendors.
Starting at 4pm we will have entertainment at Heritage Square, as the Kubb Championship rounds play out to get us ready for the raising of the Midsummer Pole and the traditional dancing and family games.
The festival has seen many different variations over the many years, but community has always been the underlying strength. We are confident that this year's festival will continue to build upon that strength.
We hope you can join us on June 14, 2025, to celebrate. And if you feel so inclined to help in this year’s festival or one in the future, please join our committee to help the tradition continue. You can reach out to us using the e-mail link below.
